The OAE Plays Mozart and Haydn

Period instruments and gut strings take on Haydn's Nelson Mass, written in 1798 while Napoleon's fleet was still a real and present worry, plus rarer pieces from Zelenka and Mozart either side. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment plays it rougher and closer to how it must have sounded first time round, no smoothing it out for modern ears. A mass written under threat of invasion still sounds urgent in a room this size, less museum piece than warning shot.
